Oceano Wines: Born of Vine, Sea and Soil
Our founder, Rachel Martin, grew up in California, where the rhythm of the coast shaped her earliest connection to self, to nature, and later to wine.
Her career began in Virginia, where she spent more than two decades at her family’s estate, Boxwood Winery, helping to establish Middleburg, Virginia, as a premier wine-growing region and building an internationally recognized brand. Yet the pull of the Pacific never left her.
On California’s San Luis Obispo Coast, Rachel discovered Spanish Springs Vineyard—a site rooted in ancient seabed soils just one and a half miles from the ocean east of Pismo Beach. Here, she found the perfect convergence of soil, sea, and climate to create Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah wines that are distinctive, flavorful, and alluring. Each wine tells the story of its time—and with every vintage, that story evolves.
“Our wines carry the coast in every glass—
a perfumed adventure shaped by the sea, the soil,
and the spirit of discovery.” —Rachel Martin
The first Oceano release in 2016 set the tone: a Chardonnay that carried the coast’s energy in every sip. Since then, Oceano has grown into a brand recognized for quality and vision—and for pioneering new directions in the world of mindful drinking.
With Oceano Zero, Rachel reimagined fine wine without alcohol, creating a luxury non-alcoholic collection that honors both enjoyment and personal agency. With Oceano Ultra, she introduced the first ultra-low-alcohol wine in the U.S., blending tradition with innovation for those seeking balance.
To Savor The Ritual is to live fully and mindfully—with presence in quiet moments, intention in daily choices, and the spirit to seek adventure along the way.

THE STORY BEHIND THE LABEL
Seahorses are a rarity in the wild. They chose their mate for life, the male carries and gives birth to their babies, perfectly representing true love, sacrifice, and the unbreakable bond of destiny
When Rachel decided to start her winery, she chose the name Oceano, one of the original five cities in Greater San Luis Obispo. The seahorse symbol soon followed, embodying connection to the ocean, and commitment to creating exceptional California wine.
